    For Aussies

I took my 808-8As to Lorantz Audio Services for a re-mag( Lorantz is similar to GPA in that when the Rola loudspeaker company came to an end here, its chief designer acquired the tooling for manufacturing loudspeakers). Located in Dandenong, Victoria.

I removed the rear covers, loading caps and diaphragms - Lorantz would do this anyway.

Lorantz will get back to me with the re-mag field strength measurements prior to any decision to ship the drivers.

    Stay tuned.

    mah,
Thanks for that.I got the details for a group in Melbourne who advertised remagging.I suspected that they were sending the items to someone else as opposed to doing it on the premises,so I didn't proceed.

My guess is that Lorantz is who they would have been sending it to.

Excuse me if I'm not correct, but CPC don't perform the remag, they send the component to Melbourne somewhere.

I fully suspect that they all go to the same place.

    Re: For Aussies

Murray (CPC) actually sends them to Etone in Sydney if remagging is needed.
    He's a top operator.....he supplied me with some 902's & they're just great.

    Re: For Aussies

I checked out the Etone website. They offer magnet repair and will repair CD diaphragms in some cases.

    Re: For Aussies

808 remag results report from Lorantz Audio Services:

    "Unit# ...Flux before(Gauss) ................Flux after(Gauss)

    #1 ...12200/13000/14000/13500.....14000/15000/16000/15500

    #2 ...16500/14500/14000/16000 ....17000/14500/14000/16000

The four readings are from four measurements made at 90 degree spacing. We tried both impulse and DC magnetizers-both produced the same results."

Altec give 15250 Gauss as the nominal flux density. Unit #1 average is 15140. Unit #2 average is 15375. A good result, I would say.
